Daniel G. Gambet, O.S.F.S.

Father Gambet was ordained a Catholic priest in 1957. He came to Allentown in 1965 as the first Academic Dean of Allentown College of St. Francis de Sales, now DeSales University. In January 1978 he was appointed President, a post from which he retired in July of 1999. Upon his retirement, Father Gambet was named President Emeritus by the College’s Board of Trustees. Father Gambet was appointed a Trexler Trustee in 1997 and reappointed in 2007.

Father Gambet has been active in a large number of local and regional organizations, including the United Way, the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation, Lehigh Valley Hospital (as a director), the Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Universities (past chair), and PPL (as a director). Currently, he is a trustee of the Harry C. Trexler Trust, a member of the Board of Channel 39 – Lehigh Valley PBS, National Museum of Industrial History; and the Executive Service Corps of the Lehigh Valley; a trustee of Keystone Nazareth Charitable Foundation, and an Executive Board member of the Minsi Trails Council of the Boy Scouts.

Father Gambet has been honored by many local and regional organizations. He has received honorary degrees from Lehigh University, Lafayette College, Moravian College, Muhlenberg College, and the DeSales Medal from DeSales University. His leisure interests include reading, travel, aerobic walking, and golf. Father Gambet hopes to live long enough to have his golf score equal his age.
